The Comptroller-General of Customs , Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to leveraging advanced technology for enhanced border security. Speaking during a courtesy visit to the National Security Adviser (NSA)

Malam Nuhu Ribadu, Adeniyi highlighted the NCS’s efforts in deploying Geospatial technology to strengthen surveillance, intelligence gathering, and enforcement across Nigeria’s land and maritime borders. Adeniyi emphasised the crucial role of technology in modern border management, noting that the Service has made significant progress in integrating cutting edge solutions to combat smuggling, trafficking, and other transborder crimes.

Global seaport operator, Dubai Port World, has expressed interest in establishing an industrial park and export logistics base at Nigerian ports, a move aimed at boosting trade efficiency, enhancing port infrastructure, and improving Nigeria’s maritime sector. The company’s delegation, led by Sultan Ahmed Bin-Sulayem, met with Nigeria’s Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, where discussions centred on investment opportunities and collaboration for the modernisation and expansion of Nigeria’s port infrastructure. Speaking at the meeting, Bin-Sulayem disclosed that DP World operates in 48 countries and manages over 90 terminals worldwide, with a significant presence in many African nations.

The Ibom Deep Seaport project has received a fresh boost as the Akwa Ibom State Government reaffirmed its commitment to its actualisation, with officials assuring that the long-awaited project remains a top priority. This is as the Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Seaport, Comrade Ini Ememobong, and Chairman of the Technical Committee on the Implementation of Ibom Deep Seaport, Mrs. Mfon Usoro, have pledged to deliver on Governor Umo Eno’s promise to see the project through. During a meeting at the Technical Committee’s Project Office in Uyo, Mrs. Usoro expressed optimism about the project’s progress and

commended the state government for its proactive approach.

NIMASA DG: Marine & Blue Economy Ministry Targets CVFF Disbursement As 2025 KPI

The Director General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety ( NIMASA) Dr. .Dayo Mobereola has stated that the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy has identified the disbursement of the Cabotage Vessel Financing Fund ( CVFF) as

a key performance indicator (KPI) for 2025. Dr. Mobereola stated this when he led a delegation from NIMASA to meet with the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun over the disbursement of the CVFF. “The Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, directed us to engage with the Minister of Finance to resolve all technicalities and establish modalities to fast-track the disbursement of the CVFF to beneficiaries.

Nigeria Customs Tasks Oil & Gas Marketers Against Smuggling

The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has issued a strong warning to oil and gas marketers involved in cross border smuggling, vowing to intensify its crackdown on illegal activities that threaten the nation’s economy. Customs Area Controller,

Adamawa/Taraba Command, Garba Bashir, declared that illicit traders would not have “fresh air” until they abandoned economic sabotage. Bashir briefing newsmen in Yola, Adamawa State capital, highlighted the Command’s recent anti-smuggling achievements, he revealed that Customs operatives had intercepted smuggled goods worth N51,947,500 in just three weeks. The seized items included 29,825 litres of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, three vehicles with hidden compartments, second-hand clothing, and dangerous chemicals such as methylene chloride.

Customs Unveils Programme To Foster National Development, Advance SDGs

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has established a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Unit to lead its newly launched Customs Cares programme, aimed at fostering inclusive growth and making a sustainable impact across Nigerian communities. According to a statement by the NCS National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada, the initiative goes beyond the agency’s core mandates of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security. It, however, focuses on addressing key societal challenges and advancing national development priorities in line with the United Nations

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Under the Customs Cares programme, the NCS will implement projects such as school renovations, mobile clinic deployments, food and medical aid, agricultural support, skills acquisition programmes, and youth empowerment.
