
Chairman of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, has appointed a former Spokesperson for the agency, Mr Mitchell Ofoyeju, as the new Commander, Tin-Can Island Port Strategic Command, Lagos. Ofoyeju confirmed the appointment in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). He takes over from Commander Aminu Abubakar who has been deployed to Katsina Command. Ofoyeju is a seasoned and astute officer, with wealth of experience in media relations, drug law enforcement and drug demand reduction.

The Waterfront Boat Owners and Transporters Association of Nigeria (WABOTAN) decried decline in waterways travel on the Lagos to Porto-Novo route. Its National President, Mr Tope Fajemirokun, said this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos. Fajemirokun said that so far, only 65 trips had been made from January till date. According to him, in 2023, no fewer than 144 trips were made from Lagos to Porto-Novo through the waterways with over four journeys in a day. “We have recorded 20 per cent decline in Lagos to Porto-Novo journeys, on the waterways.

The Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, yesterday, sought the support and technical synergy of the leaders of the global maritime and shipping community towards the Federal Government’s plan for the take-off of the National Single Window (NSW) project at the various ports to facilitate quick cargo clearance and export of goods across the country. A single window is an organic mixture of parties in a nation’s international trade. It uses the latest information communications technology (ICT) techniques, international data, and messaging standards together with simplified, harmonised and remodelled information systems for data exchange to replace traditional paper-based information.

Adegboyega Oyetola, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, at the weekend, unveiled Ogun State-owned Gateway Inland Dry Port, Shoderu at Kajola in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, saying the inland dry port will be a model for the existing and prospective inland dry ports in the Country. Business Day reports that the Gateway Inland Dry Port is designed to de-congest the Premier Lagos seaport, Apapa, using the single-gauge rail line from the seaport to Gateway Inland Dry Port, Kajola where cargoes will be warehoused and moved to their destinations within Ogun or Oyo State and other parts of the Country.

Nigerian ship owners have refuted claims that they lack the capacity to transport petroleum products from the Dangote Refinery, asserting that they possess enough vessels to handle the task. This comes after recent concerns were raised about the refinery’s decision to transport its refined products primarily by sea, with allegations that foreign vessels could dominate the process, leaving local operators at a disadvantage.Weighing in on this, Dr MkGeorge Onyung, former President of the Ship Owners Association of Nigeria (SOAN), dismissed these claims as inaccurate. According to Onyung, Nigerian ship owners are capable of handling the refinery’s cargo requirements. “That’s a lie, we have enough ships owned by Nigerians that can move PMS from Dangote refinery,” Onyung declared.

NDLEA Chairman Marwa has lauded the UK for supporting Nigeria’s anti-narcotics efforts during the commissioning of the Marine Command Headquarters. Chairman/Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen.
