The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho has made history as the first Nigerian to be elected Chairman of the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa (PMAWCA). The landmark achievement was announced during the closing ceremony of the 44th Annual Council and 19th Roundtable of Directors General of PMAWCA in Conakry, Guinea. In his acceptance speech, Dantsoho described his election as a milestone for the maritime states of West and Central Africa in their quest for global competitiveness and world-class service delivery.

Maritime Stakeholders Deliberate on Sustainable Marine and Blue Economy Policy

Maritime stakeholders mulled plans to bring about a sustainable policy on Marine and Blue economy with a view to harnessing the potentials of the marine resources in Nigeria. Speaking at a stakeholder’s engagement and technical validation workshop in Lagos, Minister of Marine and Blue economy, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola said that the blue economy is a transformative pathway for the nation to seek a balance to economic growth with environmental sustainability.

NPA Targets Multi-million Dollar Port Modernisation, Aims to Boost Container Traffic

Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, has announced an ambitious plan to increase container traffic from the current 2 million containers per year to over 7 million, as part of a broader modernization effort which would cost millions of dollars. Speaking during his familiarization tour of Lagos Ports. Dr. Dantsoho emphasized the need for advanced infrastructure, technology integration, and stakeholder collaboration to position Nigeria as a leading maritime hub in West and Central Africa.

Nigerian Customs Intercepts Smuggled Petrol Valued At ₦86.5m

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Adamawa has intercepted smuggled Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) valued at N18.5m. Also intercepted by the service in its operations along the Nigeria-Cameroon border in Adamawa and Taraba states within the past two months are five vehicles and two motorcycles. Mr H.K Ejibunu, the National Coordinator “Operation WhirlWind” of the service disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Yola. Ejibunu said that the service within the period under review also intercepted 14 fuel tankers loaded with PMS meant to be diverted and smuggled.

The Managing Director Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho on the 27th November, 2024 undertook an operational tour of the Lagos Ports of Apapa and TinCan Island Port Complexes. Speaking during the visit Dantsoho said “I would like to implore all terminal operators to take advantage of the investor-friendliness of His Excellency President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and put in more investment. Given Nigeria’s huge population, Nigerian Ports definitely deserve greater investment than what is currently obtainable.”

NPA advocates review of ISPS Code implementation for maritime security

In a bid to strengthen the security of Nigeria’s maritime industry, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has emphasized the need to review the implementation of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. Speaking at the ongoing 2024 Conference of the Port Facility Security Officer Forum of Nigeria, PFSON, Managing Director of NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho highlighted that reviewing the ISPS Code’s implementation would ensure Nigeria’s ports and shipping lanes remain secure, resilient, and capable of meeting the demands of the modern global maritime industry. He stressed that this review would enable Nigeria to develop proactive and innovative strategies for a safer maritime environment.
