Nigeria Finalises National Policy to Boost Maritime Governance, Drive Blue Economy Growth

The Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy says it has finalised the National Policy on Marine and Blue Economy, a comprehensive framework designed to enhance maritime governance, foster economic growth, and position Nigeria as a leader in the global blue economy in line with Africa’s Agenda 2063. According to a press statement signed by the Head, Press & Public Relations of the Ministry, Muhammad Tahir Zakari which was made available to our correspondent, it noted that speaking during the final session of the Executive Technical Validation Workshop held at the Abuja Continental Hotel, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, described the policy as inclusive and strategic.

Maritime Stakeholders Urged to Prioritise Partnerships, Community Engagement for Sustainable Development

Stakeholders in Nigeria’s maritime industry have been called upon to prioritise partnerships and community engagement as key strategies to drive sustainable development within the sector. This call was made during a one-day workshop organized by the Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP), which held in Lagos. The workshop was themed “Port Community Engagement: Building Partnerships for Sustainable Development.” Speaking during his keynote address, Customs Area Controller (CAC) of Apapa port Command, Comptroller Babatunde Olomu highlighted the need for inclusive partnerships among key stakeholders in the port community.

OMT Commissions 2 Biggest Mobile Harbour Cranes In Onne Port

Onne Multipurpose Terminal (OMT), subsidiary of International Terminal Services Inc (ICTSI), during the week commissioned two new mobile harbour cranes at the Federal Ocean Terminal (FOT), in Onne Port, Rivers state, Nigeria.Nigerian cuisine It also opened a state-of-the-art container freight station to offer value-adding services for importers and exporters. The investment totals USD 25 million and the harbour cranes were imported from Germany, each with capacity of delivering 25 teus of containers per hour and an outreach of 20 containers across. These mobile harbour cranes are the biggest ever deployed in a Nigerian port and will set a new standard by allowing larger vessels than ever to call Nigeria.

Cargo Consolidators Extorting Nigerians with Arbitrary Charges – Farinto

Former Acting President of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Dr Kayode Farinto, has lamented the arbitrary charges imposed on Nigerians by cargo consolidators in the maritime sector. Speaking with selected maritime journalists yesterday, he said unregulated charges would have adverse effects on the nation’s economy, urging the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) and the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy to take decisive action. However, Farinto highlighted the exploitative practices of consolidators, particularly Associated Port and Marine Development Company (APMDC), and their adverse impact on the maritime industry.
