
The Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, has directed its technical partners, Truck Transit Parks Limited, TTP, to enforce the mandatory implementation of the Nigeria Export Proceed (NXP) as a key requirement for processing export cargoes. The
initiative aims to enhance efficiency and streamline operations at the nation’s ports. In a notice issued to stakeholders in the maritime industry, TTP announced that effective this month, all export trucks will be required to comply with the NXP
procedure before accessing the ports. The notice urged stakeholders to familiarize themselves with the requirements and adhere strictly to avoid disruptions in cargo processing and transportation.

Nigeria and the Ugandan governments have strengthened trade relations following the appointment of the Ugandan Trade Representative Ani Bassey-Eyo to Nigeria, marking a step in implementing the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement. According to a statement, the appointment preceded the signing of commitment export orders, paving the way for Uganda’s first official shipment of goods to Nigeria. The event held in December 2024 coincided with the commissioning of the Free Zones Export facility at Entebbe International
Airport and the launch of Uganda’s AfCFTA Implementation Strategy.

Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise Limited (LPLEL), the promoters of Lekki Deep Sea Port, has commissioned a state-of-the-art Police Station within the port premises to enhance security infrastructure for both the port and its host communities. The
commissioning ceremony which took place recently drew attendance from the management and staff of Lekki Port, Lekki Freeport Terminal, and members of the surrounding communities. Controller, Tin can Island Port command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Comptroller Frank Onyeka has announced that henceforth, only designated units, primarily the Valuation Department or the Customs Intelligence Unit (CIU)
will be authorised to issue alerts on consignments. Comptroller Onyeka who disclosed this during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the command’, added that the alert will be based strictly on intelligence and with his direct approval. He clarified that the Enforcement unit is not authorised to place alert on any consignment without his approval. The engagement which brought together
government agencies, terminal operators, freight forwarders, importers, and customs agents aimed to streamline operations and enhance trade facilitation.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is implementing a 4 per cent charge on the Free On-Board value of imports. The Spokesman of the service, Abdullahi Maiwada, made this known in a statement he issued in Abuja. Maiwada explained that the directive was in line with the provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act (NCSA) 2023. “ In line with the provisions of Section 18 (1) of NCSA 2023, the NCS is
implementing a 4 per cent charge on the Free On-Board (FOB) value of imports. “The FOB charge, which is calculated based on the value of imported goods, including cost of goods and transportation expenses incurred up to the port of loading, is essential to driving the effective operation of the service.

The Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) has announced a 15% upward review of its charges. The authority cited the need to improve competitiveness and upgrade infrastructure as the primary reasons for the increase. During a maritime stakeholders meeting in Lagos, NPA Managing Director, Abubakar Dantsoho,
explained that the decision was necessary to bring Nigerian ports in line with international standards. Dantsoho, who was represented by Olalekan Badmus, Executive Director of Marine and Operations, emphasised the importance of stakeholder engagement on the rate review, which has already been approved by the Federal Government.
