Nigeria Customs Service Suspends 4% Fob Charge Amid Stakeholder Consultations

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the suspension of the 4% Free-on-Board (FOB) charge on imports, as outlined in Section 18(1)(a) of the Nigeria Customs Service Act (NCSA) 2023. This decision comes as consultations continue

with the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Olawale Edun, along with other key stakeholders. By suspending the charge, the NCS aims to allow further discussions with stakeholders and refine the implementation framework of the new Act. The timing of this decision coincides with the completion of contract agreements with service providers such as Webb Fontaine, which were previously funded through the 1% Comprehensive Import Supervision

Scheme (CISS).

Nigeria Eyes Premier MariFme Status, Sets Sights On IMO Council Seat

The Federal Government has intensified efforts to position Nigeria as a leading maritime nation, with strategic reforms in port modernisation, aquaculture expansion, and international trade facilitation. Speaking at an interactive session with the League of Maritime Editors, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, revealed that Nigeria has officially notified the International Maritime Organisation, IMO, of its intention to contest for a Category C seat during the 34th IMO Assembly in London in November/December 2025. The Minister confirmed that President Bola Tinubu has approved the bid, adding that preparations are already underway. “In furtherance of our improved international posture in world maritime governance, we have proposed a bid to contest election into the International Maritime Organisation Council (Category C),” he said.

Customs, NSA Destroy 64 Containers Of Substandard Goods In Port Harcourt

The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser, NSA, has destroyed over 60 containers of substandard and illegally imported pharmaceutical products worth billions of naira in Port Harcourt. The destruction took place at the Rivers State Waste Management dump site along the Port Harcourt Airport road, as part of a nationwide crackdown on illegal drug imports. Speaking at the site, Assistant Controller General of Customs, Timi Bomodi, who also chairs the committee for the destruction of illegally imported pharmaceuticals, emphasised that the exercise was a joint operation led by a multi-agency committee set up by NSA Nuhu Ribadu.

Moniya, Ibadan, Oyo State. Chief Commercial Officer of APM Terminals Nigeria, Caroline Aubert-Adewuyi, made this known on Monday in Lagos during the launch of the Apapa-Ibadan standard gauge rail service for container transportation. She said, “The plan for the Apapa-Moniya standard gauge rail service is that it operates like an airport conveyor belt system, receiving exports from the hinterland and evacuating imports from the port efficiently, on a fixed schedule without interruptions.” Aubert-Adewuyi highlighted past challenges

with the rail service.

Port Modernisation Remains A Priority – FG

The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, says the modernisation of seaports remains a top priority for the Federal Government. Oyetola said this on Thursday in Lagos at an interactive session with the Nigerian

Guild of Editors (NGE). The minister recalled that the Federal Executive Council last week approved the award of contract for the modernisation of the Western Ports (Lagos Port Complex, Apapa & Tin-Can Island Ports Complex) with a completion

period of 48 months. According to him, the procurement process for the modernisation of the Eastern Ports is being fast-tracked. “The goal is to ensure that our port system collectively becomes the transhipment hub for the sub-region.
